Calin

2024

What if you could control the intensity of the sun’s brightness?

Calin is a lighting piece that offers a unique way to interact with light, giving you that control with a simple, tactile gesture. Inspired by the image of a hand cradling the sun, the design uses smooth, rounded curves to create a sense of warmth and connection. The ivory white glass sphere provides a soft glow, while the filleted chamfered edges invite a tactile response, echoing the natural shape of a hand.

The light intensity is controlled by a manual, side-to-side rail mechanism, allowing users to adjust the brightness by rotating the sphere. This interaction encourages mindfulness and a deeper connection with your environment. The ceramic base adds stability and enhances the overall look. Calin can be wall-mounted with the cord hanging down or installed like a traditional sconce, offering flexibility in any space.

The chamfered edges, facing inward, are designed to cast deliberate shadows, drawing attention to the form and creating a dynamic interplay of light and shadow that invites engagement with the design.

Calin is created to connect users with both the function and experience of light, fostering an environment that promotes presence and connection.
